Setting Goals For A Health Practitioner Business In 2021

Review the year that was

Whether your 2020 was amazing, average or a complete disaster, there have been lessons to learn through it all. Like all business owners, practitioners had to pivot or completely overhaul their business to stay afloat.

Take some time to reflect on what happened in 2020 for your business. Don’t just write it off as a failure - look at the hard data, the income, the sales, the social media metrics and so on.

See what patterns arose, and what you can do in the new year to encourage greater success.

Set goals based on what you want, not what others have

So many pracs end up wasting precious time, energy and money chasing goals that aren't a fit for them.

Want to make $250K a year? Go ahead and work towards that.

Got a dream set-up that allows you to make a living and maintain a great work-life balance? More power to you.

Get really clear on what you want and why you want it.

What is the end game? If you achieve that goal, how is it going to make your life even more incredible?

Figure out what to upgrade, delegate or toss out

We’re only human - we can’t do everything all at once. So if your to-do list built up over 2020, now is the perfect time to look over it all.

Brainstorm out every single goal and to-do you have in your head for your business. From there, mark them as:

  • Upgrades - Some to-dos and goals take a bit of effort in the short-term, but a good upgrade can help streamline and improve your biz success in the long run.
Think refreshing your brand or website, using a paid booking system, setting up an online store, or even further education and development courses you want to do.

  • Delegate - if something makes you cringe, it’s a good idea to outsource it ASAP!
You might outsource a task completely such as bookkeeping or website design. Or you might partly outsource by using a website template or investing in branded social media templates.

  • Toss out - is a goal no longer relevant? Or is it not going to make much of a difference to your business success?
A lot of busy-work can sneak in when you run your own business. Sometimes, you just need to bin it completely. At the very least, you can mark it as a task for next year.

Break your goals down into bite-sized chunks

Don’t get me wrong - there’s nothing wrong with setting big goals. It can push you to reach heights you never thought possible! But it could also leave you overwhelmed and paralysed.

The trick is to break them down into steps that feel more achievable. That way, you’re more likely to take action.

What do your big goals look like if you do something each:

  • Day?

  • Week?

  • Month?

  • Quarter?

For example, seeing 1000 clients in a year feels crazy and overwhelming. But what if your smaller goal is 20 clients per week or 80 per month? That sounds much more achievable.

Or maybe you’ve decided that 2021 is the year that you crack a six-figure income. Sounds crazy, right? But say you offer 60-minute appointments for $150 - you’re looking at an average of 13 clients per week to make that income a reality.

Is an amazing website or a consistent & cohesive brand on your goals list for 2021?
