How to grow your Email list with MailerLite

Email continues to be one of the most effective forms of marketing and reaching target audiences. If you want your practice or small business to grow, then you need to improve your subscribers, and MailerLite is the tool that can help achieve this.

Importance of email lists

Social media and Google ads are reliant on the algorithms, and you may not always reach everyone. They are also expensive, but email is much cheaper, albeit a bit harder to master. With email, your list of clients receives your news and offers, no matter what, and this helps you build a relationship of trust with them. People prefer to support practitioners and businesses that they trust. It’s also one of the first things you should do, even if you are studying, waiting on transcripts or still getting your business started.

Which tasks does MailerLite make easier?

  • Automated email marketing

  • Ability to organize an email list according to campaign type (RSS, auto resend, A/B split, and regular campaigns)

  • New subscribers can receive personalized welcome messages automatically

  • Subscribers can opt which kinds of emails they receive

  • You can send exclusive offers to all subscribers

  • Content upgrades are for free

  • A free 6-day email course or challenge

  • Dashboard for a complete account overview

Benefits of using MailerLite

  1. It’s free until you reach 1,000 subscribers and 12,000 emails. After that, it is affordable, with a discount for annual payments.

  2. Stunning landing page templates and automation are some of the features which are included in the free plan.

  3. A drag and drop interface that is intuitive.

  4. With a paid plan, all newsletter deliveries are made according to your client's time zones.

  5. Subscribers can be filtered with many option types.

  6. Besides 24/7 customer service, you get reports, mobile-friendly forms and newsletters and lots more.

MailerLite set up made easy

The first thing you need to do is set up an account on MailerLite by providing them with a name, email address, and password. In order to be able to send emails to your clients, you will need a custom email with your domain name.

Account approval

Once these details are filled in, you will be taken to the “welcome page” where you have to get your account approved.

Provide your details on your profile

These don’t include personal questions, but MailerLite does want your name, industry, address, time zone, and a survey for their own statistical purposes. They will ask you to agree to their anti-spam policy before you click on “save”.

Verification

Type in your domain email on the “Verify your website” link and then click “next”. You will now receive an email of confirmation, and you are all set up and ready to go on MailerLite.

Import your existing subscribers

Have all your subscribers saved on a CSV or TXT file and on MailerLite click on “Add Subscribers” at the top of the welcome screen or on the “Subscribers” tab? Choose the option CSV or TXT from the next screen and rename each column to suit you. Subscribers can also be added manually, from an Excel list or if you have been on MailChimp then connect accounts.

MailerLite is user-friendly and easy to set up, so get started with an intensive email campaign that will get you noticed.

What to do once you’ve set it up

Set up a landing page so subscribers can actually subscribe and then set up an automation email so that when they subscribe, it triggers to send them a gift automatically. Examples of what I design and see for other practitioners and small business include:

  • Tip 5 reasons why you may find it hard to fall asleep

  • One Week Healthy Eating Meal Plan + Shopping List

  • How a doula can help you in labour and Post Partum

  • DIY your skin routine - three recipes for glowing skin

Designing can be done in Canva quickly enough, or you can even save a word document as a PDF. The downside with MailerLite to date is that you need a place to store that document. You could upload it to google drive, dropbox or the media area on your website. It doesn’t matter where as long as its secure (so don’t go googling) as those free websites that you can upload your document can also delete it without warning. If uploading the material is making you feel worried, please contact me, and I can help. Another way is to use the email template on mailerLite and not have it as a PDF.

Always targeting your opt-in to your ideal client will help your subscriber list grow. You can change them every quarter if you like or you can keep the same one.

It is not advised to change the opt-in regularly but to market it effectively. This is key, I know it’s something we were not taught at college, but without marketing, people can not find you, which means they won’t know who you, ultimately not booking in with you.

Once you have the landing page and email sorted you can connect the two, share the landing page link on your social media platforms, any Facebook groups that allow it. If you have an established newsletter list, share that email with them too. Just make sure you open that door so that you can elevate your business.
