How To Nail Your Niche And Get More Clients

Does the idea of a niche baffle you? Are you still on the eternal search for the right clients? This might seem less important to figure out than the perfect protocol or breaking research. I hate to break it to you, but your clinic will suffer if you don’t get clear on your ideal client!

The good news? Nailing your niche makes everything easier! Embracing it will make it easier to create content, market yourself and get more of the clients that you dream of working of.

If you’re still on the niching fence, let’s take a closer look.

Why do I need a niche anyway?

Put simply – it helps you stand out from the crowd! There are a few key reasons that not having a niche can cripple your business:

  • It makes it harder to build the know-like-trust factor with people. Your content will be all over the place because one week you’re talking about hormones and the next it’s sports nutrition.

  • It makes your marketing impossible to tailor. When you don’t know who you’re marketing to, all of your services and offers will be general and vague.

  • No one will look at your services and feel like those are the solution to their biggest problem. This equals fewer clients booking in.

So do yourself a favour and get clear on your ideal client. It's not a life sentence, after all!

How to nail your niche in 4 steps

Is the idea of a niche a foreign concept for you? Feeling overwhelmed with options? Never fear, I’m here to break it down into 4 simple steps that you can do starting today.

1. Pick a niche

I know you were expecting something far more involved than this. But it really does start with just… picking one!

There are only a few tips I can give you for this:

  • Pick something you enjoy working with

  • Don’t pick something just because you’re ‘good’ at it or because it’s the type of client you’ve been attracting

  • Look for something you have a personal connection with – in my experience, 95% of practitioners end up working with something they have gone through personally or have supported a loved one through

  • Don’t stress out about picking the right niche - you can always change it in 3, 6 or 12 months if it’s not quite right for you!

Once you have hit at least 80% certainty that you can work with that particular group of people and enjoy yourself, you can move onto the next step.

2. Own that niche

Once you’ve got a niche, that’s it – right?

Wrong!

To really own your niche, you need to declare it loud and proud. You need to tell people when they ask. You need to make it clear on your social media and website.

Potential clients aren’t psychic – they don’t magically know who you work with unless you shout it from the rooftops!

Once you’re clear on your niche and how to describe them, share it everywhere. Think:

  • Your website

  • Your Instagram bio

  • An introduction post on Facebook every few months for new followers

  • Your Facebook cover picture or pinned post

  • On any bio you ever create (guest blogs, podcasts, media interview and contributions)

  • On the sandwich board out the front of your clinic space

  • Anyone who ever asks what you do

Basically, anywhere that you show up as a practitioner and/or business owner – that’s where to be open about it.

3. Find where your people are hanging out

Now you know your people. You’re telling everyone you know who you work with – from your local barista to your babysitters.

But if you’re not hanging out where your people are, you might not be able to reach them.

Recently, I worked with an amazing practitioner who was frustrated with marketing on Instagram. When we dove a little deeper, we figured out her niche is aged 50+ years – aka a group of people who are not hanging out on the ‘Gram!

It’s a huge waste of energy and time if you’re in the wrong space. So find out where your ideal people are hanging out, and focus your efforts on that spot.

Don’t know where your people are hanging out online or in person? Time to do some market research. Find someone you know who falls into your niche, and ask them.

4. Craft content and offers with your people in mind

My favourite perk of picking a niche? You can create content and marketing that speaks to your ideal clients on a much deeper level.

Stop posting generic tips about water and vegetables.

Quit posting random pictures of your food when you don’t know what else to post.

It’s time to craft content that appeals directly to your ideal people.

No idea what you should be sharing, creating or marketing? Ask yourself these 3 questions about your niche:

  • What problems do they think they need to have solved (i.e. their main symptoms)?

  • What type of content and offers are they more likely to respond to?

  • With these things in mind, what would serve them best?

Every single piece of content, every single marketing strategy and every single offer you put out there should be put through this filter.

That way, every single thing that you put out there is building your community's trust in you and puts you in the best position to serve. But it also makes it incredibly easy for people to want to work with you – which means, you guessed it, more clients!

Once you’ve got these 4 steps in place, you officially reach the rank of Nailed Niche!

But most importantly, you are on track to build a dream business allows you to attract and serve your ideal clients every single day.
