Why I Love Website Design For Naturopaths, Nutritionists, Acupuncturists and Herbalists

Website design is an important tool for health practitioners - including naturopaths, nutritionists, acupuncturists and herbalists. The right website can support your business as you grow and thrive. But the wrong website can sabotage your efforts and even lose you potential clients.

Today, I thought I’d share the top 5 reasons why I’m so passionate about quality website designs for health practitioners.

5 Reasons Why I Love Website Design For Naturopaths, Nutritionists, Acupuncturists and Herbalists

No one talks about branding or website design when you’re studying

Think back to your studies. How often did you hear your lecturers talking about the importance of marketing, attracting the right kind of clients, pricing yourself, branding or designing an effective website?

During the average health science degree, you do one subject about business. And if you’re lucky, you’ll have one lecture about marketing, having a website and branding yourself. The rest is all about your associations, regulatory bodies, how to write a business plan that is rarely usable in the real world and book-keeping.

But do most practitioners come out with the tools they need to build a successful business? Nope!

Instead, you get flung out into the practitioner world and have to doggy-paddle to keep afloat and figure it out as you go.

This is why I love working with health practitioners on their branding and website design. There is so much that the right branding and site can do to support your business. The goal is to build something that allows you to focus on doing what you love most: working with clients.

A website is your little patch of the online world

A lot of the spaces we use in the online world are rented, not owned.

If Facebook shut down your page tomorrow, there is almost nothing you can do about it. If Instagram is blocking your most important hashtags so people can’t search them, there’s no way to stop them.

There are even suggestions that some of the newsletter platforms are starting to censor natural health topics.

That’s why you want to have your own little corner of the internet. A place where you can be 100% yourself, talk about the topics you want to discuss, use the images you want to use (even if it has a body part that social media censors!)

You’ll also get fewer trolls on your website vs your social media. It’s almost like people know it’s your side of town, so they don’t tread there.

I love being the one to create a safe place for a natural health practitioner to hang their virtual shingle.

I’ve been in your practitioner shoes

When I’m not wearing my tech-guru/designer hat, I’m also a qualified naturopath with a successful online clinic. So when I say I get where you’re coming from, I mean it.

There’s a reason why I work exclusively with health practitioners just like you. It’s because we share a passion, an understanding of the world, a goal that others outside of the health world just don’t get.

I know the high when the client who has been struggling for years starts to see improvements under your guidance.

I know the constant desire to smack my head on the desk when people say that gut health is overrated, food doesn’t affect fertility, or stress is something you just have to deal with.

Hell, I even know that exasperation that hits when a client complains that they don’t feel better - only to admit they haven’t done their homework!

That’s why I design websites for holistic health professionals. My goal is to not just give you a beautiful, functional website - although I definitely want that as well! I want to give you a website that serves your greater purpose in life.

People out there need to be able to find you

The days of putting up a shingle and waiting for people to come to you is done.

Nowadays, there is so much noise out there. It’s your job to get in front of the potential clients you want to be working with.

There are plenty of ways you can do that. But your website is one of the most powerful. It can build up your ranking on Google, so more people can find you. It’s a place that you can host useful content designed to attract the right clients. And it’s a one-stop shop for everything a potential client might want to know about working with you.

If your website is out there, it looks good and it works properly, people are going to find it. And if your content and branding demonstrates that you’re the practitioner for them, they’re going to work with you.

It’s that simple.

It’s time for natural health professionals to take business seriously

This is me getting on my soapbox right here!

There is no other profession that I know of that questions itself as often as the natural health world.

Lawyers don’t wonder if they should be discounting for their first clients. Doctors don’t panic about what others in the profession might think of them. Tradies charge for their time, materials and expertise without batting an eyelid.

So why the hell should natural health professionals be anything but kickass at being business owners?

For many health practitioners, a website is a big step. It’s not just because you’re investing money, either. It’s your way of saying ‘hey, here I am, here’s what I do, and here’s why you should work with me’. And that can be terrifying!

But that level of visibility is what we need to attract clients. And it’s also critical as you start to see your business as a business, not just a hobby.

When you play it small, you do yourself a disservice, you are unable to serve the clients who need you, and you often end up leaking those same beliefs across to new practitioners.

So ask yourself: are you playing small?

Are you afraid of the big bad out there? Is it really as bad as what you think, or can you look at it as something exciting instead?

Are you a naturopath, nutritionist, acupuncturist, herbalist or health practitioner?
