Why does every child need a strong foundation in STEM subjects?
If you are studying force and motion, a domino chain reaction is a great activity to demonstrate potential and kinetic energy. First, build a small and very large domino out of LEGO® bricks or other building blocks. You may want to do this ahead of time. Then ask your students if they think the small domino can knock down the large one. If you try it, the small one will just lean against the larger domino. It doesn’t have enough kinetic energy to knock over the larger domino. What about the reverse? Will the large domino knock down the small one? Why? Paper cup stem challenge I’m going to show you five fun STEM challenges for February that I like to do with my second and third-graders. If you teach another grade level, keep reading because they might fit the bill. Plus, I have even more STEM Challenges for kindergarten through second grade that I’ll share towards the end.
Straw roller coaster lesson plan

Our physics class did use your instructables for the straw roller coaster (both of them: tinkercad roller coaster design and then building it.). Domino stem challenge
Materials needed
As the preschoolers worked together to build the pyramid, we ran into a few other problems. First, they made the base too long and wide, so again, despite sharing about 97 paper cups, they built a wall and not a pyramid. (I know, 100 would have been perfect, and a perfect activity for the 100th day of school). They brainstormed solutions, which mostly ended in asking me if I had any more cups. This lead into a very good mathematical discussion about if we pull some cups from the base to add to the top our overall structure will change shape, even though we are using the same amount of cups. Students will get together and work in small groups to answer science related puzzles in order to open digital locks and “escape” from a virtual locked room. This lesson has been designed to cover the 6 th grade standards of kinetic, potential, chemical, and thermal energy; energy transfer through an ecosystem; the law of conservation of energy; radiation, conduction, and convection; and the hydrologic cycle. While your students may escape their virtual locked room, they won’t escape the phenomenal review this activity provides!
